Fire Resumes at Hormuz, Memory Carries the Month — Monday, August 31, 2026
Brass Rat Capital LLC (“BRC”) · Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
Settled Close · Month-End · a fresh Hormuz exchange moves oil and little else, the book's SanDisk-anchored cluster carries the session, and August closes as the month the memory demand-sink thesis worked hardest

- Book day P&L: +$45,528.17 across 50 active pairs; active unrealized ($110,567.15).
- P3 (PHO/BEDZ) closed today at the settled close for a realized loss of ($11,151.42); realized register moves to +$473,081.28 across 24 closed pairs. No closure rationale was given at the time and none is invented here.
- SNDK rallied +5.50% and lifted every pair built around it (P63, P65, P56, P55, P64, P71) simultaneously — six of the book's top seven Day P&L contributors were SNDK-leg pairs.
- Month-end: August was the memory/semiconductor demand-sink theme's best month, per the companion monthly close report (July 31 → August 31); see Section II.

United States Treasury 10-year par yield: 4.75% (8/28) → 4.73% (8/31), roughly flat. Dow (DIA), Russell 2000 (IWM), equal-weight S&P (RSP), and copper (CPER) are omitted from this table: yfinance carries a documented data gap for 2026-08-28 on these four tickers specifically (also flagged in the premarket edition's own sourcing note for the same date), and no substitute August 28 print was independently confirmed in time for this edition. Flagged as an open item rather than filled with an unconfirmed figure. Equity and commodity marks two-source confirmed to the cent (yfinance daily batch and the Yahoo Finance version-eight chart interface) on the eleven instruments shown.
I. The Weekend That Reopened the Constraint
United States forces struck Iranian rocket launchers over the weekend, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (“IRGC”) retaliated within hours — missiles against United States bases in Jordan, largely intercepted, and drone strikes reaching Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. It is the first direct exchange of fire in roughly a month, ending a summer lull that had let the Cboe Volatility Index (“VIX”) drift down to its lowest level of the year on Friday. Crude jumped more than 3% on the news, energy names led the tape higher, and utilities and communication services — the rate-sensitive end of the market — took the worst of the broader selloff. The 10-year yield barely moved on net, essentially holding the elevated level Friday's Warsh speech had already set.
II. A Recovery Day for the Book, and the Month That Made It Possible
Friday's edition described NVDA's round trip — an 8.74% earnings rip, then a 4.58% reversal the very next session. Monday added a third data point: NVDA rose again, +1.48% to $220.78, a partial retrace of Friday's slide. For a book carrying substantial short-NVDA exposure across Theme 13 and the T11 cluster, that is a mixed signal on its face — but the real story of the day was SNDK, which rallied +5.50% and lifted every pair built around it (P63, P65, P56, P55, P64, P71) into the green simultaneously. Six of the book's top seven Day P&L contributors were SNDK-leg pairs. The energy names moved as expected on the crude spike — CVX, VLO both up, feeding directly into P36, P32, P40, P69, P9.
Today closes the month, and Monday's session is a compressed version of what the full month did. Per the companion monthly close report (July 31 → August 31, full text on Drive), memory and semiconductor scarcity was August's single best-performing constraint theme: SNDK gained 28.96% and Micron gained 16.49% over the full month against an NVDA short leg that itself rose roughly 10% — the long legs of Theme 13 outran their hedge by a wide margin even as the hedge participated in the broader rally. Precious and industrial metals had their best month of the year to date (silver +14.84%, gold +9.93%, Wheaton Precious Metals +38.52%, Sibanye-Stillwater +34.05%), and the smelting-capacity and grain-oriented-electrical-steel themes decoupled from each other for the first time in months. Against that, APTV fell 20.74%, DAL fell 10.80%, and ERII fell 10.87% over the month — three of the sharpest single-name laggards in the 79-ticker universe the report surveyed. Monday's SNDK-led session is, in miniature, the same story the whole month told.
III. What the Falsifier Watch Flagged Last Time, Confirmed
The constraint-themes registry's Theme 12 review (logged 2026-08-31, ahead of that same morning's premarket edition) flagged a live confirmation to watch for: further strikes reopening the Hormuz corridor within days of the review being written. That happened within the same session — oil's response (+3%, versus equity indexes moving a fraction of that) is exactly the divergence the registry entry described as the theme's live signature. The refiner/tanker names (VLO, STNG) responded accordingly.
IV. The Pair Book — Settled to the 8/31 Close
All 50 active pairs, marked to the 2026-08-31 settled close against the 2026-08-28 prior settled close, two-source confirmed on all 53 distinct tickers. Sorted by Day P&L descending. Table embedded verbatim from the already-verified standalone file, per real precedent (the 2026-08-21 settled-close rebuild) — one canonical table, not a hand-duplicated copy.
P3 (PHO/BEDZ) closed today at the settled close — PHO 71.31 / BEDZ 36.5541 vs. entry PHO 66.86 / BEDZ 31.03 — for a realized loss of ($11,151.42); BEDZ's exit mark remains PROVISIONAL per Mode B (the ticker's multi-session zero-volume stretch), carried rather than freshly confirmed. No closure rationale was given at the time and none is invented here.
